Affiliate Disclosure

Pure Context costs nothing to read and carries no advertising. It is paid for through affiliate links. This page explains what that means, where those links are, and what does and does not influence the course.

How the arrangement works

An affiliate link is a link that tells the destination website where a visitor came from. When you follow one of our affiliate links to the World of Tanks website and then create and activate an account there, MARIN stav s.r.o., the publisher of this site, receives a commission. The commission is paid for that account creation and activation; we are not paid simply because you visit.

The arrangement is run through the affiliate network that operates the link. The network records referrals on its own systems and reports commissions to us. We do not receive information that identifies you, and we do not ask for it. The Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain this further.

You pay the same as anyone else. Following our link does not change any price or condition you are offered, and you can always reach the vendor's website directly by typing its address instead.

Where affiliate links appear

Every affiliate link on this site is to the World of Tanks website and is labelled "Visit the World of Tanks website", with a note directly beside it saying that it is a paid link. They appear in four places:

Step 2, Step 5, the checklists, and the About, Contact and policy pages contain no affiliate links. The links to Australian government websites throughout the course are ordinary links; nobody pays us for them.

The offer behind the link is intended for desktop computers. The links go straight to the destination address shown when you hover over them; we do not route them through pages of our own.

What the commission does not decide

The commission does not decide what the course teaches, which questions each step covers, or what the checklists ask you to do. The advice to set a spending limit, check a game's classification, protect your account and close it when you stop would be exactly the same if the links were removed.

It also does not mean we have tested or rated the product. We do not publish reviews, scores or rankings. What we say about World of Tanks comes from the vendor's own description and is attributed to the vendor. Where that description is silent on something important, such as price, system requirements or classification, we say so and suggest you check.

What does decide the content

The structure of the course follows the order in which beginners usually meet each question. Safety, consumer and privacy points come from Australian government sources: the Australian Cyber Security Centre, Scamwatch, the eSafety Commissioner, the OAIC, the ACCC and the Australian Classification Board. Our editorial method explains which sources each step relies on and how often the course is reviewed.

We are open about one point of influence: World of Tanks is used as an example partly because we earn a commission on it. We have tried to limit that influence by keeping the example sections separate, short and skippable, and by never presenting the product as the only option or as suitable for everyone.

Your choice

You can finish every step of this course without creating an account with any game, and without following any affiliate link. Nothing on this site requires you to act by a certain date.

Trademarks

All brand names on Pure Context, World of Tanks among them, are the property of their owners. Except for the paid affiliate links described on our funding page, none of those owners is affiliated with Pure Context, and none has endorsed or sponsored it.
